If you drive through Pittsburgh regularly, you’ll want to plan ahead.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that the Parkway East (I-376) will completely close in both directions between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) interchange for 25 consecutive days.
The closure begins:
- Starts: Friday, July 10, at 9 p.m.
- Ends: Monday, Aug. 3, at 5 a.m.
The extended closure is part of the Commercial Street Bridge Replacement Project and is expected to significantly impact commuters, businesses, and anyone traveling through the eastern corridor of Pittsburgh.
Drivers Should Expect Delays
Thousands of vehicles use this section of I-376 every day, making it one of the busiest highways in Western Pennsylvania. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time, consider alternate routes, and expect heavier-than-normal traffic on surrounding roadways throughout the closure.
Official Detour Routes Available
PennDOT has released several official detour routes designed to help drivers navigate around the closure. Depending on where you’re traveling, different alternate routes may provide the fastest option.
