In search of a Vaccine by Debbie Norrell

Somehow, I thought this would be easy, I would identify a location and a date at my leisure, and then show up for my Covid-19 vaccination. Well not so fast Ms. Norrell you have to get in line. Ok, I’m not opposed to waiting my turn. I went on the internet to a site that I received from a friend who was fortunate enough to get an appointment. I tried to get one as well but no luck. I was trying for the appointments at the DoubleTree Hotel in Monroeville. I just heard on the news that those slots filled up within 30 minutes. Next stop was Walgreens, according to their website they do not have the Covid-19 vaccine in stock at this time. A neighbor told me that she was just at the Giant Eagle on Rodi Road and people were getting vaccines. For the second time, I logged in to the Giant Eagle Covid-19 queue and “got in line.” My wait time was over an hour and if I logged myself out then I would have to go back to the beginning of the line. Keep in mind this is the only way you can make an appointment. My neighbor is 81 years of age and she does not have the internet or a laptop, therefore she cannot make an appointment at all. I finally got to the front of the line and got a message that no appointments were available. Yes, my head popped off of my shoulders. After I calmed down, I told myself to be patient and when it’s my turn it will be my turn. I will continue to wear my mask, wash my hands and practice social distancing. In the meantime, keep your eyes and ears open for possible locations where vaccines may be available. It’s like looking for a pot of gold.
