Eggs by Debbie Norrell

Everyone is talking about the price of eggs. I guess I don’t buy eggs that often because I thought it was a joke until I went to the grocery store the other day and I decided to see for myself. So the price of eggs has increased dramatically and the Giant Eagle in Monroeville had eggs by the half dozen for a little under $4. I was not in need of eggs, so I passed. Recently someone invited me to come to their house for a gathering and I was thinking about taking deviled eggs they told me not to bring anything as they planned to provide all of the food but I never like to go empty-handed, for a change I will go empty-handed. There have been many posts on social media about the cost of eggs with pictures of the price and for some reason, it didn’t phase me. Trust and believe it’s not that I have a lot of disposable income I guess I looked at the pictures and thought what else is new, and then I thought about how seldom I use eggs. Eggs are not on my daily menu. Every now and then I will make a breakfast with scrambled eggs, potatoes, and bacon but my daily morning wake-up is a protein smoothie with a banana and raspberries. I like a boiled egg cut up in a salad or sometimes just a boiled egg with toast. So, when I buy a dozen eggs, they last. I do feel bad for the restaurants, especially the breakfast restaurants. Recently several restaurant owners were interviewed and the price they have to pay for eggs by the crate has skyrocketed and many of them said they don’t want to raise their prices. Let’s hope like gas the price of eggs will soon go down.
