Stop the Spam Calls by Debbie Norrell

Years ago, there was a thing called the “do not call list.” You remember that don’t you? You had to register your telephone number, and it was supposed to block calls from nuisance callers or spam calls. I want to know what happened to that because I’m receiving way too many spam calls. Some of the calls that I receive most often ask me if I want to sell my house. I’m sure these people research available files and find people who are older and may be looking for a payout. Well, I’m not that person. I have no desire to move and if I do want to sell it it won’t be to an overseas company that will turn my home into a rental. When these pesky people call, I always ask where they suggest I live if I sell them my house and they immediately hang up. Just a word to the seniors out there if you get a call like this and you are excited by what sounds like a big pay day stop and think if you sell your home you are going to have to pay  to move and most likely move into a rental that may very well cost you twice what you were paying for  a mortgage. Do the math before you jump at the chance to “downsize.” As for that do not call list, yes, the National Do Not Call Registry still exists and is permanent. You can register your landline or cell phone for free at DoNotCall.gov or by calling 1-888-382-1222. Once registered, it takes up to 31 days for most telemarketing sales calls to stop, though it does not block scammers, charities, political groups, or surveys. Good luck.
