Let’s pick up where we left off. There are so many US citizens making moves to leave the USA. I’m sure you have seen the social media posts “Blacks living well in Thailand.” Well not so fast my brothers and sisters there are some who have moved to Thailand specifically and have experienced what I will call “movers’ remorse.” Here is what some who have moved to Thailand say are the cons about their new location. I knew this was going to be top of the list, “learning the language.” Of course, you can use electronic devices to translate but there is nothing like knowing and understanding what someone is really saying to you or about you. This person went on to say that “doors will open when you learn the language.” One person said that they were in constant vacation mode and that they relied on savings and did not create a real income. Others said they neglected their health. There are places for medical services but its not like having health insurance or having your own PCP. Perhaps these people were not getting regular checkups. I’m not sure if that is common in Thailand. For many people the heat was at the top of their list, they said it was so hot that they spent a lot of time inside. They also complained about the mosquitos and that there are a lot of stray dogs and cats. If you are moving to Thailand with school age children, be prepared for additional expenses. Depending on the type of school they attend you may be responsible for uniforms, school supplies, transportation fees, physical education fees and more. One big issue that was mentioned is not being able to drink the water; it was said that you have to buy bottled water or get a filtration system. Before you move, do extensive research about who can own property and what your status will be while living in another country. This is more than a vacation.
