I have always believed that if you tell the truth, you won’t have to remember a lie. The truth is easy; you don’t have to remember the details because you are telling an incident as it happened; the story does not change. All people who make a habit of lying should sit down and binge-watch The Forensic Files. You will see that eventually your story will begin to fall apart, and the truth will be revealed. The recent incident that involved Carlee Russell reminds me of the Tawana Brawley case. Do you remember that one? It was 1987, and she alleged she had been kidnapped and raped by a group of white men. After investigation, it was found that she was not telling the truth, and she had to make restitution for the resources that were used and pay one of the men that she claimed committed the horrible act, which never happened. Russell was a nursing student who claimed that she was kidnapped for 49 hours in a stunt she later confessed was a lie. She has been charged with two misdemeanors in connection with the hoax. There have been several young ladies who have made up stories to cover the truth, and the incidents have become major news stories. I’m sure we all have made up stories when we were growing up—why we came home later than our curfew, why I wasn’t in chemistry class, why I dropped out of college and didn’t tell you for 3 months. The truth can sometimes be hard, but it always works out in the end when you are upfront with people, especially your parents and the people that love you. You don’t have to try and remember the details that you made up, and when you begin a habit of not telling the truth when you are telling the truth, people will doubt you. So, make it easy on yourself and tell the truth…all the time.
