One of my best “Black Friday” purchases was a small freezer. I placed it in my garage, and it is so convenient. I was listening to the news the other day and the news anchor was advising the public to get things now for your holiday meals. Even though I go to a friend’s for thanksgiving I still like to prepare my own meal. Recently I picked up a small frozen turkey breast and a sweet potato casserole with pecans. I knew that if I waited neither item would be available closer to the end of November. The freezer allows me to stock up on items that I like to have on hand, and I even keep a small bag of ice in it in case I have company drop in. I got my freezer at Kmart before they went out of business for just under $100. I now see the same size freezer for about $129. It was a great investment. I used to be a big “Black Friday” shopper but now stores have marked items down prior to that date and the Black Friday shopping has lost its luster. I am trying very hard not to be a hoarder but with the current supply chain issues, I don’t want to get caught out of essentials like toilet paper. I thought by now a lot of things would be back to normal, but I was wrong. Recently I passed another store that has gone out of business due to a shortage of employees. Some stores have reduced their hours and it seems like many employers are begging people to come and work. I almost applied for a job and then I reminded myself that I am retired, and I should leave that job for someone who really needs it. The sad thing is it seems like a lot of people feel that don’t need a job at all. I still wonder what are they doing for money.
