One thing that I haven’t stopped doing since retirement and during the pandemic is shop. It’s one of my favorite pastimes. Perhaps it is just a way to get out of the house and see human beings or maybe I am always in search of that great bargain or an item that I cannot do without. Recently I discovered that Ross on McKnight Road closed. I was shocked, to say the least. I didn’t go into that Ross too often but to see it close its doors concerned me. My main concern was will the other stores close as well. I stopped into another Ross recently on senior citizen discount day (Tuesday) and asked about the store that closed and will there be more. At this time, I think the answer is no. also on this same Tuesday, I happened to drive through the Waterworks and saw that Bed Bath and Beyond is closed. There are a lot of empty storefronts in Monroeville Mall and one that I can’t remember the name of closed recently. On the day I was in the mall walking it was the last two days for the store, so I looked in to see if any fixtures were available. Unfortunately for me, everything has been sold. I also missed the last days of Express. I peeked into the old New York & Co. and there are still mannequins in there in need of a good home. A lot of businesses have been destroyed by the pandemic. So many stores and businesses were closed for so long it will be hard for them to recover. Many will never reopen. I am still not much of an online shopper that might be the “old school” in me. I like to touch and feel and try clothes on. I’ll keep you posted on what is closed next. Let’s hope the list will be short.
