What is one of my favorite sitcoms? It is “Martin” and I’m sure I have seen every episode; I stay up at night watching Martin reruns and own the first two seasons on DVD. A recent issue brought one of the funniest episodes to mind. Let’s see if you agree. The Martin episode went like this. Unbeknown to Martin Gina borrowed $25 from Cole while Martin was in the shower. When Martin found out about it, he told Gina that she had put herself in a position to become “Cole’s love slave” and she should have come into the shower and got the money from him even though he did not have it. Martin explained that now she was indebted to Cole for the grand total of $25 allowing Cole to manipulate Gina whenever he wanted. “Cole owns you, girl,” said Martin to Gina. This whole theory made me weak, and I still crack up every time I see it or think of it. Well, I understood what Martin meant when I heard that Judge Clarence Thomas was taking favors from billionaire Harlan Crow in the form of expensive vacations, the purchase of his mother’s property, and some other incidentals that are valued at more than $25. I could just hear someone saying to Thomas that “Crow owns you, boy.” I am not sure how this relationship was discovered but you know loose lips sink ships. After this “friendship” was discovered, it seems like there were a few other inappropriate relationships discovered between judges and wealthy citizens. I guess you never know when you are going to need someone who sits on the highest court in the land in your pocket. A “judge slave” so to speak. This world is such a mess that I have to laugh to keep from crying and watching Martin on repeat keeps me in stitches.
