I am ready to travel. In my best Lenny Kravitz voice “I want to get away, I want to fly away yeah yeah, yeah” but I still have fear of Covid while traveling and I would hate to book a flight and the crew not show up. You know if the crew doesn’t show up you are not going anywhere. You may be told mechanical issues or something like that but normally the issue has to do with not having a sufficient crew to take off. Since I don’t have a big bunch of friends, I have decided to start traveling to places where I know someone that I can connect with when I get into town. I’m not looking to stay in anyone’s home. As a matter of fact, I would rather stay in a hotel of my choice and then get together with friends for dinner, concerts or sightseeing. Often when you travel like this both you and your friend in that city can become tourists. You may select somewhere to go that they have never been before, which is exciting. Another way to travel solo is with a travel club or via AAA. I always look for a trip that gives a single room option. Yes, you will pay more money for a room occupied by a single person versus a room occupied by two and I think that is not fair, but that is how these travel companies work. The beauty of traveling with a group for me is I will have people to talk to about the trip, hopefully, someone to eat with, and yes there is safety in numbers. One of the things that always burns my butt is when someone tries to suggest that I room with a stranger. The answer is no. I’m traveling to relax and enjoy myself. I’m not trying to share space with someone I never met before. Let’s hope some of the local travel groups will schedule some trips soon. I promise to wear my mask. I’m ready to get in the wind.
