Did You Do Black Friday? by Debbie Norrell

For years I set my alarm for 4 am or earlier to go shopping on Black Friday. It was a tradition, and if my sister and brother-in-law were in town, I dragged them along. We had so much fun. I remember the year we watched a man try to get a large flat-screen television into his trunk. He tried and tried but with no success. He probably stood in line forever to get it and then could not get it home. We would always conclude our shopping trip with breakfast at a local restaurant. This year I decided to do Black Friday. My goal was to get one of the free snow globes from J. C. Penney, but I was too late. They started giving out the snow globes at 5 am. I am normally up at that time, but I slept past the time and missed out on my globe. I used to collect them from J.C. Penney’s, and then they stopped giving them out. When I did make my way to the store and inquired about them, a lot of salespeople said they did not know that the snow globes were a “thing” and said they went fast. I still found some great items. It seems like every store in the mall had a sale going on. One store had clothing that was two for $5. Now that is my type of sale. Many of you know that I am a reseller, and I spend a lot of time in thrift stores. Goodwill of Southwestern PA had a 40 percent off sale on everything. In Monroeville, their parking lot was full, and when I went in the store all of the shopping carts were in use. I still scored a great “haul,” and I can’t wait to show them to my clients. Try to shop wisely and look for the best bargain that is out there.
