As part of City High’s 20th anniversary, we are proud to announce the creation of the bi-annual City High Summer Symposium. This inaugural year’s theme: Nurturing Student Growth through Innovation featuring Keynote Speaker Dr. Valerie Kinloch, Renée and Richard Goldman Endowed Dean and Professor of the University of Pittsburgh School of Education.
Why are we stepping out like this? With educators under the microscope these days, it’s important to share success with others in the field and with the public. And we have a success story! In just one generation, City High has gone from startup to standout and changed the educational landscape of the region. The success of our students tells the story, backed by winning statistics, which you can see at https://www.cityhigh.org/achievements.
How did we do it? We focused on equity, technology, and relationships and achieved what many long-standing educational organizations have been striving for: proof that ALL STUDENTS CAN ACHIEVE amazing things when their potential is nurtured and they are held to high expectations.

About City Charter High School: City Charter High School is a technology-infused public school whose mission is to graduate students who are academically, technologically, personally and socially prepared to succeed in post-secondary education, training, or employment. Under the leadership of CEO and Principal Dara Ware Allen, PhD, City Charter has created a model that addresses the challenges facing education today (teacher burnout, student disenfranchise-ment and multi-layered teaching approaches due to crises like the pandemic). By using a winning formula of technology, innovation (like a “looping model” to build relationships between teachers and students), and equity for all students, City Charter has achieved what some thought impossible for our students. We’re creating the future workforce of our amazing city. And that benefits us all.
