Did you know there are alternatives to modern medicine? That if you have a headache you don’t necessarily have to take a pill as a relief for your pain.

Let’s really look at the source of your headache. Are you under constant stress because of deadlines at work, problems at home or in your relationship, difficulty in paying the bills, a brain tumor, maybe a recent accident or even unemployment? Whatever the cause, you have this headache and society tells you that you should pop this pill to get rid of this pain right now. I say get rid of the stress and you get rid of the headache. I know it’s not that easy, especially in most instances things are beyond your control that’s what makes matters worse but I’m hear to offer some suggestions on dealing with stress.

Remedies:

  • How many of you have heard of a Migra-Stick? This little green and silver stick can be purchased, locally at The East End Food Coop or at most health food stores. When used to massage the temples it will rid you of your headache.
  • Also allow yourself at least ½ hour to unwind.
  • Invest in a lavender scented candle.
  • Sip some Chamomile tea.
  • Take a nice bubble bath.
  • If you need help relaxing? Get a Massage. At The Ultimate Beauty Spa in Pittsburgh, PA they offer an Aromatherapy Massage using lavender essential oils. This form of massage will assist in the reduction of stress. Studies show that massage triggers the relaxation response taking your body off alert and setting in motion the biological process needed to restore your physical resources. Heart rates and blood pressure decrease breathing slows and deepens, tense muscles relax.
  • Exercise will help, just a leisurely walk will give you a break in you everyday routine of things.
  • Lastly, if it’s financial seek out financial counseling

In conclusion there are alternatives, to medicating yourself, but you have to look at the root of the problem and address that first in order to achieve positive results. The longer you put off addressing the problem, the more aggravating and stressful it will get. This will lead to major health conditions such as Cancer, High Blood Pressure, Hyper Tension or Diabetes.

Remember what you put into your body, is what you will get out of it.  Look for our column to come out monthly and you have a happy healthful day.
