“Education is the Key to Success.” This sentiment was echoed throughout the afternoon by each of the guest speakers at the A Second Chance Charitable Foundation scholarship fund fashion show held Saturday, October 27, 2007 at the Churchill Valley Country Club.
This sophisticated and fashionable affair was put together by Dr. Sharon Lowe and other members of the board, staff and families of A Second Chance, Inc. to raise funds for a worthy cause, “The Charlotta E. Saylor Scholarship Fund.” The creation of the scholarship fund is near and dear to Dr. Lowe’s heart, as Charlotta Saylor was a close friend sharing a common vision to make sure every child has the proper skills necessary to develop into responsible adults and become a productive member of our society.
The soulful smooth sound of DJ Sly Jock played in the background as the arriving audience mingled and greeted each other. The room filled with the young and old, many of them who have directly or known those who have benefited from the programs offered through A Second Chance, Inc. The gala event included praises by leaders of the community and educators who knew Charlotta Saylor and like herself they stressed the importance of carrying on her vision in continuing to offer the at-risk youths in our communities a second chance to become a better person by education and an outreach of love.
The list of entertainment presented by several groups of talented young people was a mixture of music, spoken word, dance and mime ministries. You could feel the positive energy flow through the audience, as they stood in applause after each act. The feature presentation was the fashion show, with beautiful models and fabulous clothing donated by several local businesses. Models from Distinction Models, A Second Chance, Inc. Models and Teen Models showcased the season’s latest fashion trends, from women’s glitter T’s, spiked boots to men’s over sized silk screen T’s with matching jeans. The runway also featured evening wear, the every popular and timeless little black dress, gowns, tuxedos, men suits accessorized with cool Stacey Adam footwear.
The afternoon ended with a firework of African dancing and drumming, a vibrate introduction of the African clothing designs of Pink Lady. This was a great afternoon of people coming together to celebrate the life and mission of Charlotta E. Saylor and to support the youth in our communities.
