There are some dishes that have disappeared. Today I am going to concentrate on desserts. That was something I always looked forward to at the end of the meal. One of my favorites was Pecan Ball, a simple scoop of vanilla ice cream rolled in pecans with a drizzle of chocolate syrup. That dessert has totally disappeared. It seems that the common dessert for large banquets is that pale yellow cheesecake with a dab of strawberry sauce. It is my least favorite of any dessert. The cheesecake seems to be gummy and sticks to the roof of my mouth. I always pass when the server brings it out. I have noticed that a lot of others pass as well. You would think that the banquet department would see how much of it is not eaten and they would add something else to the menu. How about a good dish of sherbert, tasty and rather low in calories. Perhaps a slice of apple pie, I don’t know anyone that is allergic to apples. Heck, I would prefer a bowl of Jello instead of that cheesecake. But people don’t even make Jello anymore. My mom used to make Jello molds for every holiday, she had a collection of molds, and we used to love them. The Jello was so refreshing. I wonder how much extra it would cost if Jello was requested for a banquet menu. It was very inexpensive. Just lime Jello and a little Cool Whip would hit the spot. I guess Jello has gone out of style, you never see any ads for it and now I buy it premade. What dessert did you enjoy that seems to have disappeared? I would love to know.

Email the columnist at debbienorrell@aol.com

Click Here to View All “Lifestyles with Debbie Norrell” Articles

I have lost count of the number of banquets and dinners that I have attended both professionally and personally and I have noticed something.
