I figure that if I wait until then there is not a chance that the temperatures will be below freezing, and my flowers will not die. So, this year I purchased flowers for the front and back yard, then it got hot, and I got busy and there were many days that I forgot to water the flowers, and they shriveled up and died. During one of my many trips to the thrift store, I happened to spot two faux Boxwood plants, the same size and quality that I saw at “At Home” for $50 each. The ones in the thrift store were $14.99 each. They looked real enough to put in front of the house. I hope they don’t fade but after some research I found that they are to last for quite some time in the sun. After making this find I decided to replace the dead flowers in the backyard with some fake ones. After all I will be the only one to see them. What I was after was color for the yard and a little bit of whimsy for the back yard. Many years ago, I bought an old bicycle with a basket on the front. I spray painted the bike pink and put live flowers in the basket. This year I revived the bike and spray painted it yellow and used flowers from Dollar Tree in the basket. I don’t want to have to go outside each day and water the flowers. I added a few more solar lights, pulled some weeds and replaced the dried-out flowers with bunches of faux flowers. It brightened up the yard and made me very happy.

Email the columnist at debbienorrell@aol.com

Click Here to View All “Lifestyles with Debbie Norrell” Articles

I love beautiful flowers in my yard and for years I have gone out and purchased flowers after Mother’s Day to plant outside.
