Celebrations are fun and necessary, and I love to celebrate. There are so many reasons to celebrate: birthdays, weddings, babies, new homes, new jobs, retirement and so much more.\u00a0 The celebration can be small or large, I prefer something in between. In our current world celebrations have become huge. I think social media and reality TV have influenced people to throw big parties that they can barely afford. Parties that we never heard of \u201cback in the day\u201d are now the norm, can you say, \u201cgender reveal party.\u201d Back in my day, you let the doctor tell you the gender of the baby and sometimes you shared it, or you waited until the baby was born to tell your family and friends. I remember when my niece was born, I did not know until the day she was born that my sister was having a girl. We were so excited to get the phone call from my brother-in-law. Yes, back in those days there was no texting or social media. Now let\u2019s talk about these over-the-top weddings and receptions. Why spend so much money on an event that lasts for a few hours and let\u2019s not forget about that 50\/50 ratio that the marriage will end in divorce. One of my favorite shows was \u201cSay Yes to the Dress.\u201d I love a beautiful wedding dress but spending $15,000 for a dress is too much when you are not a wealthy person and then demanding that a second dress is purchased for the reception that costs almost as much is crazy. That money would be better spent on a home. Did you know that the reason most relations break up is not infidelity, it’s MONEY? So, by all means, celebrate but celebrate within your budget.<\/p>\n
