Accomplished Community Organizer Takes Helm of PUMP<\/strong>
\nPUMP names Josiah Gilliam as new Executive Director<\/em><\/h4>\n

PITTSBURGH, PA (January 9, 2023) \u2014 PUMP announced today that Josiah Gilliam will be the new Executive Director, effective January 9, 2023.<\/p>\n

Josiah most recently served as the Special Initiatives Coordinator in Mayor Ed Gainey\u2019s Administration for the City of Pittsburgh. Previously, Josiah served as the My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Coordinator for the Peduto Administration after working to develop an action plan for the initiative in partnership with the Sprout Fund and Heinz Endowments through his role at the Homewood Children\u2019s Village. Before that, he worked in various impact areas within the Pittsburgh nonprofit community with focuses on food insecurity, workforce development and career training, and web and digital communications.<\/p>\n

A 2017 honoree of PUMP and Pittsburgh Magazine\u2019s 40 for 40,\u00a0 Josiah has served on PUMP\u2019s Board of Directors since 2019, most recently as Vice Chair and Chair of the Public Policy and Advocacy Committee.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Board of Directors led a national search to ensure we found the right steward for PUMP\u2019s future,\u201d said PUMP Board Chair Sarah Spiegel. \u201dWith his extensive experience in community building, we are incredibly excited to announce Josiah as our new Executive Director. We are confident in his commitment not only to PUMP but to improving the Pittsburgh community for everyone.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cPUMP is doing a lot of amazing work in Pittsburgh. Our priority is to engage our network and the broader Pittsburgh community about the organization’s future and determine how to best position PUMP for an exciting new era. Thanks to the team and board, we survived the tough first years of the pandemic and still made great strides programmatically, in particular, our increased focus on civic engagement. Organizationally, we must continue to take the lessons of Covid seriously and deliver excellent and impactful experiences, build out additional partnerships and programs, invest in organizational resilience, and build our capacity,\u201d Gilliam said.<\/p>\n

Josiah graduated from Penn State with a Bachelor\u2019s degree in Political Science and Government and an Associate\u2019s degree in Spanish Language and Literature.<\/p>\n
