Are you traveling alone? Most of the time, I am traveling by myself. I have the entire car to myself. The passenger seat becomes my snack tray and an empty back seat allows me to carry excess luggage, hat boxes and just about anything that I want to bring. This all changes when you have passengers, and 3 additional people bring more luggage and stuff. If you are going on a road trip with friends and you are the driver of the vehicle you have to set some rules. The first rule is limiting the luggage. One piece per person should be the standard. The driver is the person in charge, and they should make it known. You don’t want to be harsh, but you want everyone to be happy. For instance, if you don’t smoke and don’t like the smell of cigarette smoke tell people up front. Let’s talk about fragrance. Personally, strong fragrance drives me crazy. Mention this to your passengers not in a harsh way but just let it be known that they should not spray their selves with perfume, body spray or anything that gives off a strong odor before they get in the car. Let’s talk about alcohol, no drunk riders. You may think these rules are harsh, but when you are in close quarters with others, you want to have a nice time. Give everyone a responsibility, rotate seats, and take turns paying for the gas or tolls. Make all rules and regulations of the trip known before you pull off and stick to the rules. I just did an 8-hour trip with 3 ladies, and it went very well. One lady was great at watching for exits, another kept track of whose turn it was to pay for gas, and they all made sure that the driver was happy. I see another road trip in my future.

Email the columnist at debbienorrell@aol.com

Click Here to View All “Lifestyles with Debbie Norrell” Articles

Let’s get on the road and go somewhere.
