Another school-related challenge involves students vandalizing school property. In each story there are videos supporting that some students have met the challenge, some have ripped toilets from the wall, torn down soap dispensers and toilet paper holders, and the dividing wall between the toilets. I don’t get it. Where are the parents of these juvenile vandals and why isn’t everyone (parents and child) held accountable? It seems like technology advances and human behavior deteriorates. I would be curious to know if any of the young people who committed the vandalism have been punished? Do the parents just say oh well? Do they turn their heads and pretend like it never happened? Are the parents afraid? I often wonder when I see people caught on tape committing acts of violence and vandalism what do their parents think when they see their kids acting out and does it concern them. Any time I thought about doing something wrong my mother’s voice was in my head and in most cases I stopped because I didn’t want to disappoint my mother or my father. Since I am not a mother, I have no experience in raising children, but I do know the difference between right and wrong and as the old saying goes you don’t have to own a car to know how to drive one. I truly believe most of our unrest in schools begins at home and goes back a generation or two. What I fear is that these issues will not be solved they will only morph into something else, a new challenge or another way to destroy and disturb the surroundings.
