“In every conceivable manner, the family is link to our past, bridge to our future”-Alex Haley. A family reunion is the connection of generation to generation. The Tarpley Family Reunion is dedicated to our common ancestors Stephen and Della Tarpley. The roots of our family go back to the 1830’s, when Stephen and Della were born. Stephen endured the harshness of slavery times, obediently worked for the Confederate Army and dutifully served his employers. God truly blessed him with a long life here on earth (March 13, 1828- February 13, 1941) and Stephen accepted God’s gift of salvation and now enjoys life eternal with his heavenly Father.

The descendants of Stephen and Della Tarpley traveled near and far, in celebration of life, love, laughter and legacy. Relatives arrived at the Comfort Inn Conference Center in Penn Hills, PA on Friday July 3rd. The festivities began with the Welcome Night, where games were played and giveaways were distributed. WGBN 1150AM, Monroeville Mayor Gregory Erosenko, State Representative 32nd Legislative District Anthony DeLuca, Visit Pittsburgh & Long John Silvers on Rodi Rd provided a memorable and warm welcome to the attendees. One of the most talked about activities was the family representation within the Monroeville Independence Day Parade! Chants from the family, cheers from the crowd and a standing ovation from the panel were much more than expected. Mayor Erosenko stated our participation was “a new dimension for the borough and hopefully a new tradition for us.” The celebration continued with a picnic full of games, food and heritage displays by family historian and research team. The night concluded with a talent and fashion show as the giveaways continued. The reunion officially came to an end with a church service at Free Indeed Ministries Rev. Lloyd Phillips, Pastor. While the anticipated reunion is over, the expectation rises for our next big gathering. It was truly a blessing to see 20 first-time attendees adding to an overall total of 150, representing five generations.
