Book Promo Spot: Cheryll M. Chakrabarti
If events were permitted to occur naturally, would prophecies become realities?
Can a prophecy be changed by manipulating events? Perhaps prophetic revelations come to fruition when a sequence of events is manipulated, and that prophecy is, in fact, contingent upon those alterations.

Science-Fiction author Cheryll M. Chakrabarti was among those gifted authors who particiapted in the Soul Pitt’s 3rd Annual Meet the Authors event held this past May. Today she is sitting down with the SP Writers Block to promote her latest book -
The Plant Star: Unfolding Prophecy.
SP Bonita: The theme of the book is the prophecy, explain this to our readers.
Cheryll Chakrabarti: The prophecy is told in the legend of Khali. It is said that when the widow holds the treasure of the King the end of the Uni Empire is at hand.
The Prophecy was given to the King Elwon’s father, by the Keepers. It goes back to the forging of the planet star. There were fifteen Keepers, who were powerful creatures sent by the Keeper of the Universe to the Khalian Solar System to be mentors/guardians of the 15 planets. Their purpose was to unify all creatures living in the system. After seven generations they left the solar system in the hands of the inhabitants. Soon one of those left in power started building his personal army and making plans to take over the entire universe. This is when the Prophecy was put into place.
SP Bonita: Writing science fiction most writers develop a new language and universe, how did you go about creating the Khalian Solar System language?
Cheryll Chakrabarti: I developed a partial language to assist in the development of character names. It helped being familiar with different languages. I didn’t want to use names similar to earth, leading to the credibility of the story taking place in different solar system. I developed a partial language that had a smooth monolithic sound which I liked, and I incorporated those sounds into the creation of the of characters and locations.
The story is fast pace filled with action, but there is a love story emerging slowly between the main characters of Elwon Galan and Shreela Bakra. The reader will find that the relationship is not a distraction from the story, as its focus is the fulfillment of the prophecy. Shreela is widow and Elwon is a widower, adding to the mystery she doesn’t know he is the king. So there’s no need for her to put on façade, she is free to be who she is. In turn he has the opportunity to thoroughly examine who she is. Elwon is very interested in her character, as she’s a woman who shoots from the hip. He finds her even more intriguing as she explains to him that he holds all the power because he has all the information about the danger they’re in. She feels powerless, stating those having the information have the power. Throughout their dangerous journey in escaping the sinister forces who are working towards preventing the fulfillment of the prophecy, they both learn more about one another.
The ages of the two main characters are mature but not too young or too old for readers of all ages to find a common connection. I’ve had young readers come up to me and say they appreciated the age range of the characters, giving them a sense of learning from their experiences. I was even cornered by a 12 year old who was excited about the book’s storyline and characters; in turn I had a 60 year old woman comment on how much she enjoyed the book, as it took her on a fantastic journey.
One important factor regarding the book’s heroine, Shreela, I wanted to write her as a logical creature. Not your typical Laura Petrie or Lucille Ball characters that were always ending up in trouble. In reality most women are rational creatures, we have a logical way of thinking. I felt this was important trait in defining Shreela’s character.
She is the protector her son, Soren, and I think most women are extremely rational when it comes to protecting their children. I wanted to be sure that she was a clear thinking, logical individual.
I’m working on the next book in the series, and it spends some time going back to the history of the different characters in the first book. Why King Elwon is at odds with his half-sister Jenka Danne; why she hates him; how his sister Princess Megan and Calo fell in love; and the rise of the menacing Empire of the Lord of Uni, guided by Uzak. These are the events that tie into the unraveling in the Khalian Solar System, those forces working to fulfill the prophecy and those working against it.
