Aldrich\" width=\"600\" height=\"438\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"tb f5\"><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Brenda Tate is a lifelong resident of the Hill District and a 40-year veteran of <\/span><span class=\"tx\">Pittsburgh law enforcement where she served in various capacities. These include, from <\/span><span class=\"tx\">foot patrol to the protection of three visiting Presidents and in 1998 she was the first <\/span><span class=\"tx\">African-American female assigned to a new unit\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx f41\">\u2013<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0The Witness Protection Program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"tb f5\"><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0BT Community Consulting, LLC is her business, wherein she works with <\/span><span class=\"tx\">organizations to assist them build positive community relations, respond to safety needs <\/span><span class=\"tx\">and create effective partnerships with law enforcement.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"tb f5\"><span class=\"tx\"> \u00a0 <\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0One of her early clients, Three Rivers Youth, under the leadership of President and <\/span><span class=\"tx\">CEO Peggy Harris, was in need of assistance in brokering relationships between the <\/span><span class=\"tx\">police, the community and those who are in charge of the group homes located around <\/span><span class=\"tx\">the City. By the coordination and facilitation of community meetings where all parties <\/span><span class=\"tx\">came together to dialogue about the challenges they faced, and fears of the community, <\/span><span class=\"tx\">she was able to diffuse potential conflicts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"tb f5\"><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Additionally, she helps insure local police and residents understand the mission and <\/span><span class=\"tx\">goals of Three Rivers Youth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"tb f5\"><span class=\"tx\"> \u00a0 <\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Her entr\u00e9e into this new endeavor is an opportunity to combine her background and <\/span><span class=\"tx\">experience, and utilize these skills to serve organizations to assist in meeting specialized <\/span><span class=\"tx\">needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"tb f5\"><span class=\"tx\"> \u00a0 <\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Another business she serves is the KBK Enterprises, the developers of the new <\/span><span class=\"tx\">Skyline Terrace in the Hill District, with properties in Garfield and the Larimer <\/span><span class=\"tx\">neighborhoods.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"tb f5\"><span class=\"tx\"> \u00a0 <\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Keith B. Key resolved that he wanted to discontinue outside contracting of security at <\/span><span class=\"tx\">their properties. As a result, Tate was hired to build a security team and manage the <\/span><span class=\"tx\">security force, Rhino Security, for all of their properties. She says,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx f41\">\u201cI\u2019m proud to be able <\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"tx\">to assist, along with Tanya Ford, establish this security force because Keith is more than <\/span><span class=\"tx\">a developer. Not only does he build homes, but his approach to creating communities is <\/span><span class=\"tx\">holistic<\/span><span class=\"tx f41\">\u2014<\/span><span class=\"tx\">including to putting\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx f41\">a new face on the word \u2018<\/span><span class=\"tx\">Security<\/span><span class=\"tx f41\">\u2019<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0ridding the stereotypical <\/span><span class=\"tx\">appearance of persons in the industry<\/span><span class=\"tx f41\">\u2014I\u2019m pleased to be a part of his team.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"tb f5\"><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Tate says that both Three Rivers Youth and assisting the establishment of Rhino <\/span><span class=\"tx\">Securities will be long-term commitments as she continues to build her business. She <\/span><span class=\"tx\">says,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx f41\">\u201cI\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">hope when my contract is up with Three Rivers Youth they will be on solid <\/span><span class=\"tx\">footing with the community and be able to handle any issues that arise. \u00a0Also, the <\/span><span class=\"tx\">relationships\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx f41\">we\u2019ve helped build will mitigate<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0problems and allow the youth homes to <\/span><span class=\"tx\">function better in the community without involving law-<\/span><span class=\"tx f41\">enforcement as much.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx f41\">\u201cI\u2019ll be using what I already know\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">to help organizations recognize and deal with all <\/span><span class=\"tx\">manner of safety issues, and I actually have a team of retired police officers ready to help <\/span><span class=\"tx\">facilitate meeting the needs of any organization concerned about maintaining safety <\/span><span class=\"tx\">issues.<\/span><span class=\"tx f41\">\u201d<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0She says that it was through the efforts and support of Urban Innovation 21 who <\/span><span class=\"tx\">helped her restructure her thoughts about starting a business after retirement. She says,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx f41\">\u201cI <\/span><span class=\"tx\">previously had a passion to open a flower shop, but with their assistance, I was able to get a\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx f41\">\u2018<\/span><span class=\"tx\">real<\/span><span class=\"tx f41\">\u2019<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0look at what it meant to create a business.
