January 21, 2014 (Pittsburgh)… For the fourth consecutive year MCG Jazz has been chosen as one of Downbeat Magazine’s Great Jazz Venues for 2014. Only 160 venues in world-wide receive this distinction, and only half of those Jazz Rooms are located in the United States.
Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild is one of only three Pennsylvania venues honored and the only honoree in Western Pennsylvania. Downbeat says, “This list represents a comprehensive look at where great jazz and improvised music is being played globally – from terrific, intimate rooms to the most sophisticated concert halls.”
MCG Jazz is proud to be listed along with such world class venues and is honored to continue to serve Western Pennsylvania audiences as it has for the past 27 years. A link to Downbeat Magazine’s 2014 International Jazz Venue Guide along with a photo and description of Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild is available at mcgjazz.org. The full Great Jazz Rooms guide can be found in the February 2014 edition of Downbeat Magazine.
MCG Jazz is half way through its 2013-2014 subscription series. Among the nine concerts to come over the next four months, several groups are celebrating milestones such as Newport Jazz Festival Now 60, Bobby Watson & Horizon’s 30th anniversary tour and Ramsey Lewis’ Sun Goddess tour. From groups celebrating milestones to artists who are new to performing at MCG Jazz we bring you the Grammy winning Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Kevin Eubanks and welcome the long awaited return of Latin Jazz Master Arturo Sandoval. Tickets for these concerts and more can be purchased at the MCG Jazz Box Office, 412-322-0800, mcgjazz.org.
