Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield recently awarded a $32,500 grant to YouthPlaces, an organization that provides career development, mentoring and other activities to local, underserved youth through afterschool programming. The grant will assist YouthPlaces’ implementation of technological resources to improve the organization’s ability to track key youth data and increase individual case management. The grant also supports fundamental skill development of underserved youth through the use of technology as a teaching tool to perform job and college searches, access online applications and build résumés.
“This grant not only helps to re-engage participants in positive opportunities within their communities, but it also helps them build the confidence and skill sets they’ll need to achieve their personal goals,” said Mary Anne Papale, Highmark’s director of community affairs.
Through the implementation of this initiative, YouthPlaces’ employees will become familiar with how to most effectively utilize technology such as an iPad or Netbook as a tool and resource.
“This grant has enabled us to purchase cutting edge technology for our afterschool programming, which helps us track data and engage our participants” said Reggie Smith, associate director of YouthPlaces.
