Two for One; an Urban Drama
written by Deborah Starling-Pollard
The story tells of two brothers caught in the urban struggle faced by all young African American males across our nation. The lack of options for young Black males, specifically in areas of employment and self enhancement has caused a state of hopelessness and increased gun violence in the neighborhoods in which they live.
This production is a call to action for communities most greatly impacted by what has been labeled a “Black issue’ by mainstream society. Click here for more »

Review by Sheila B.

The title question could be deemed a parody given the significant number of women who ask the same question, often in discouraging attempts to find a good man. Balanced responses and productive relationship concepts associated with finding Ms. or Mr. Right were addressed at the community forum sponsored by the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated-Lambda Lambda Zeta Chapter (Z-HOPE) in collaboration with The Coalition for Fathering Families. The forum was held at the Bloomfield/Garfield Activity Center on April 29th and featured a presentation by Clinical Therapist, David Burton, a panel discussion and an open floor dialogue on effectively building relationships. “Relationships are in a state of epidemic. We have to go deeper to answer the question and first look within. A good man or woman is easy to find if we find ourselves first,” says Burton. He suggested that people approach finding a mate similar to the steps in finding a job. Do a thorough self analysis to create a “relationship resume” then put it out on the market to find a good match. Questions were presented to the group on relationship vision, values and commitment. The discussion picked up heat as men and women debated over the importance of appearance and making assumptions. Click here for more »

The Soul Show, WYEP, 91.3fm
The Soul Show with Stephen Chatman and Mike Canton
Saturday’s from 2 PM—5 PM
The Soul Show is a unique concept that was conceived to provide listeners with a blend of funk, R&B, disco, ballads, jazz and other music from the 60’s through the 80’s. The show also provides its listeners with information on the artists from those periods, and gives updates on their current status. There is also unique humor and weird trivia added to jog the listeners memories on “what was I doing at that time?”, “who was I with?”, etc.
The Soul Show is a fantastic voyage back down memory lane with the funkiest DJs on the radio, Stephen Chatman, and his partner, Michael Canton. If it was played back in the day, they’ll find it and play it again.

We had a GREAT old school time last night at Blackout this Thursday (April 24th) at the Hard Rock Cafe’…that night however it was transformed into the Hard Rock “Black” Cafe’ as we turned the place out! DJ Nate the Phat Barber on the 1’s and 2’s and Laptop
was taking us from Salt n’ Pepa’s push it to Michael Jackson’s P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing). The Soul Pitt Scramble Board was jumping with lines of folks trying to win a prize and we had 3 winners in the new “Name that Old School Song”. Thanks to all of the sponsors who supported this event. The roof was on fire and we didn’t need any water. Weaves were sweated out, bald fades were glistening and people who hadn’t danced like that in years were on the floor. Thanks for coming out and for those that had a hard time getting up for work the next morning – Hey, at least it was worth it! Click here for the pics
