The Black Diamond Ball 2009 will be organized by a Core Committee of dedicated volunteers, led by Co-Chairs Ms. Karen Farmer White, MD of Public Finance Office, Mesirow Financial and Ms Yvonne Cook, President of the Highmark Foundation and Vice President for Community and Health Initiatives and supported by an Advisory Council of business and community leaders and prominent philanthropists.
The Black Diamond Ball is one of Afrika Yetu’s signature events.
This stunning themed black-tie dinner, dance and auction has become a leading date in Pittsburgh’s social diaries and is selling out fast!
This year’s theme “Tanzanite Blues” will celebrate the individuality, complexity and splendor of diverse countries in Africa and guests will enjoy a memorable evening of African inspired décor, music and fine wines and dining. The Black Diamond Ball will honor the key individuals from various institutions in the Greater Pittsburgh area who have been instrumental in making the integration an effortless evolution for African refugees, students and immigrants here in the city of Pittsburgh.

We will celebrate and pay tribute, presenting the
Nelson Mandela Leadership and Diversity Award to the honorees:
ROBERT O. AGBEDE, President and CEO of Chester Engineers
CHARLES J. DOUGHERTY, Ph.D., President of Duquesne University
